My full name is Brenda Lynne Matampale and I was born and raised in Ontario, Canada. I’m attending St. Martin Secondary School and i'm in grade 11 soon to be grade 12. My school is new to the environmental scene, with me being the co-founder and president
of our environmental club. Although we have only been active for two months, our
team has done a lot. I love making changes in my school environmentally; for example, our school never recycled but now we have recycling boxes all around the school, with my team collecting them every week. We even started a monthly cleaning that classes can sign up for and receive treats from the principal afterwards. I’ve just recently grown a passion to take action in the PEYA community and in my own school. I’m glad to have been chosen as a PEYA executive for 2008-2009 and I can't wait to see what the year has in store for me and my fellow executives.
My name is Kurt Reid and I am an executive member of PEYA. I am currently in the 11th grade and I attend school at Lincoln M. Alexander Secondary in Mississauga. Apart from being a member of PEYA, I am also a member of my school's Environmental Actions Group and the Malton Environmental Stewardship Project. At my school, we are currently trying to fight those litter bugs, by trying to make students recycle when possible and get more
recycling bins in the school, since there is not a sufficient amount. We are also trying to revitalize our Courtyard also known as the "Peace Garden". It went through a big naturalization and clean up last year, but has been somewhat on the backburner for the past few months. At
school, we participated in an energy audit, and currently have an ink cartridge
and battery collection program. For next year, we plan to initiate a composting and mulching program, have an anti-idling campaign, and
have a "Green Week". In addition to PEYA, I am a member of my school's Environmental Actions Group and the Malton Environmental Stewardship Project. I'm also involved in the Canadian Youth Climate Coalition, a national group dedicated to raising awareness on "climate chaos." I'm interested in pursuing a career in Environmental Resource and Management or Dramatic Arts. When it comes to environmental issues, I believe that lowering carbon emissions is the greatest priority.
My name is Angela Huang. I’m currently enrolled in my third year of high school
at Glenforest Secondary School and am actively involved in several extra
curricular activities aside from Green Team. For the past two years, I have
co-organized a park clean-up as one of the events for Mississauga Youth Week. I
am truly passionate about the environment and conservation of habitats. I have
also volunteered for the Conservation Youth Corps, where I spent an amazing week
tree planting at various locations. Some of my interests include dragon boating,
conservation, animals, arts and crafts, and of course, the environment!
My name is Janet Chan. I am currently a grade 11 student attending Glenforest Secondary School. I am working with the Green Team at our school to encourage people to recycle. According to the latest waste audit, we have reduced the waste levels in our school in half! This year our Green Team has done a number of projects including litter pick-ups, selling trees and notebooks made from recycled paper and setting up recycling bins. I have also worked with PEYA in holding Earth Day activities and I really had a lot of fun! I love animals and nature, and love to encourage others to help the environment.
My name is Arin Goswami and I am currently a grade 11 student at John Cabot Catholic Secondary School in Mississauga, Ontario. As a youth who is strongly involved in the community, I find PEYA to be a very tight-knit community-based organization that reaches out to and connects youth all over the Peel Region thus helping them realize the importance of the environment in today's society and politics. With rising gas prices and many other world disasters that can be directly and indirectly linked to problems with global warming, the environment should be our biggest priority and as a member of PEYA's Executive Council, I hope to make the environment the biggest priority of the youth that will become the taxpaying electorate of the future.
My name is Anagh Goswami and I am in Grade 8 and will be in grade 9 in a few months. I study in the Valleys S.P. middle school and will be attending Gordon Graydon Memorial S.S for the grade 9 IBT program. I have recently joined PEYA and went to two of their very enlightening workshops. I am also an executive member since
I was elected by the other members of PEYA at the AGM (Annual General Meeting). Currently I am trying to educate the people of my community / school about the condition of the environment and am hoping that being a member of PEYA's exec will aid me in trying to influence every
Peel Region school to have a green team/club.
My name is Fatin Chowdhury and I am currently in the pre-IB program at Glenforest Secondary School attending Grade 10. I have joined the executive team of PEYA this year after being part of the Ecomentors program and the PEYA general council last year when I have got to meet people who share similar concerns about the earth. I believe that by being in this team, I can help Peel youths understand more about the earth and the importance of taking care of it. Some interesting things about me are that I love to draw and paint (basically any form of visual art). As well, I like to play soccer, volleyball, and swim at the community centre. I am usually a funny guy but my friends tell me I am not (I like to think otherwise). I am very excited to
be a PEYA executive and hope that each of our small contributions can help the world one step at a time. And remember, becoming more environmentally friendly in our regular habits is not hard; after all we are only endangering our futures by destroying the earth.
