Region-Wide Mayday Planting

2000 Trees Planted by PEYA & Partners on May 1st!

On Thursday May 1st, 465 students across the Peel Region got down and dirty to improve their local environment. 2000 trees, shrubs, and aquatic plants were planted by PEYA members and community partners, who provided the tools and plant material necessary to put on this event. On this day, other activities included litter clean ups, nature walks, pathway mulching, and a seminar on water quality monitoring. Check out some pictures below:

Student Participant Reaction from our PEYA Executive members:
“Truthfully, most of the students were excited to be out of school. I think many learned a lot about environmental stewardship that they hadn’t bothered to think about before.”
“Most of the students were willing to come out and help plant trees, mulch the pathway and pick up garbage! Most of them felt like they did a great job. And the Enviro Club is planning another cleanup sometime next week after school, due to the want for another from some of the students who participated.”

PEYA and EcoSource are grateful to have had the support from Tim Horton’s to make this event a success.
