Young Suburban Growers

Young Suburban Growers

A new project called the Young Suburban Growers (YSG) Program is connecting high school students and other residents of Mississauga with local food. It is being undertaken by Craving Change Mississauga, a local not-for-profit community organization.

The YSG Program is in its pilot season, connecting high school volunteers with opportunities to grow food in nearby backyards. Students volunteer their time to prepare and maintain these gardens, learn how food is grown, and connect with other community members.

The harvest is being distributed between the yard owners and the volunteers. Seeds provided from the Plant a Row Grow a Row initiative are sown to reap produce for a local food bank.
